Qualification rules

Frostbite Trophy

Win the Frostbite Race (this year, associated with our club rally to Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne)

Gannet Cup

Win the Sovereign Buoy Race (associated with our club rally to Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne)

Tapping Cup

Visit the most of these 8 ports:


any 7 from Sovereign Harbour, Chichester Harbour*, Bembridge, Portsmouth Harbour*, Medina River*, Lymington, Yarmouth (* any marina);


plus any port that is either east of Sovereign Harbour or west of the Needles.


Home ports do not count. In the event of a tie the first skipper to complete is the winner.

Cruiser Cup

Visit the most ports & anchorages

Spinnaker Cup

Most miles by a sailing yacht (measured either by log or GPS but not a mix of both) from the start of the year until 2 weeks before the AGM

Telegraph Trophy

Most miles by motor cruiser (measured either by log or GPS but not a mix of both) from the start of the year until 2 weeks before the AGM

Competitive Challenge Cup

Based on best 3 finishes in any of the races in 2023, other than the Frostbite or Sovereign Buoy races.

The Cock-Up Kettle

Awarded to the skipper who has made the most calamitous mistake. If 2 or more contenders, those attending the AGM will vote for the winner.

Peanpa Cup

Best photograph in the nautical category, as chosen by those voting at the AGM

The qualification rules for the next season will usually be published on the website early in the New Year, well before the season's sailing gets underway.
